Dropbox to free up SSD space

i haven't played around dropbox (or similar cloud services), i'm not 100% speed, have general idea how work.

here's i'd do.

majority of documents (pages , keynote), need while @ work. however, there rare occasion might need access them @ other times.

thinking of moving documents external drive @ work , sync drive dropbox, if i'm away work, still access them. part think understand.

correct in understanding dropbox end 2 copies of file -- 1 on local/physical drive , 1 in cloud -- (whether using internal or external drive), aren't saving drive space?

i'm guessing in regard, google docs "cloud only", i'd still need download document work in pages, reupload cloud? (i don't want use google text editor).

understand things correctly?

wading through ramblings...

yes assume right.

dropbox duplicated. latest version can sync specific folders on computers. means won't have same files synced on each machine.
