Updated to IOS 5 on my 3GS and lost my contacts, help!

i have got round updating 3gs ios 5, know better late never.

when did worked fine except lost contacts. did restore previous date when definietly on there , still missing. have had contact list / phone book years , cant lose numbers. have read many forums on , restore should fix hasn't.

weird thing after restore when go favourites (numbers) appear split second names , revert numbers. same messages, in there not names numbers.

can suggest fix this.

in advance!

have time machine up? if so, go icloud, delete contacts cloud (if there). next, delete contacts mac (assuming cloud delete didn't remove them). then, turn off icloud contact syncing on mac & phone (if have contacts on phone, delete them now). @ point, no device own should have contacts on them, , icloud syncing of contacts should disabled. then:

1. go time machine , select contacts "restore" them mac.
2. once contacts restored onto mac, turn on icloud syncing contacts. icloud ask if you'd merge contacts in cloud. select "yes" , contacts restored cloud.
3. on phone, turn icloud contact syncing (settings > icloud > contacts: on). allow contacts flow phone cloud.

done!

if don't have time machine up, have backup @ all?
