hello fellow forum users!
got situation i'd opinions on...
own 2011 mac mini server @ home , have got data spread out (and backed up) on 5 external drives of varying size i've collected needs have grown.
far i've got 5tb of total space, 75% of used data , it's mirror copy of that.
i'd able de-clutter, simplify , secure data backups automatically , in 1 place (rather manually backing , spreading files/folders out across 5 different drives).
i'm thinking raid solution best 1+1 mirror access , quick recovery, , using external drives offsite backups every often.
sound right?
edit: use macbook @ home , purchasing appletv well... have not yet utilized server portion of lion wondering if might appropriate junction determine whether or not should go nas setup, ball of wax i'm not 100% clear on...
be aware raid not backup. raid gives drive redundancy, if 1 of drive fails, can replace minimal downtime. if raid controller fails, or file system corrupted, may lose data.
recommend nas (network attached storage, synology or qnap brands), ideally on wired gigabit network. nas doesn't have configured in raid , should attach usb disks backup.
