Simple audio problem but I need help to resolve!

my imac, 10.6.8 osx version, not allow me adjust volume keyboard. has been case ever since went store full access keyboard, regards cursor , keypad. apple store not on phone , no longer have apple care plan technical support. looked in system preferences, universal access &audio settings. must missing something. please of can.

what mac have , keyboard use, because bit confused, mentioned "cursor" , "keypad" (trackpad maybe?).
have looked @ system preferences > keyboard > keyboard > use f1, f2, etc. keys standard function keys?
