Processor-illiterate: Can Someone Please Help Me Compare A Couple Processors?

hey there,

i'm in market mbp. haven't decided whether i'm waiting redesign or not, that's not question.

whichever mbp model (current or redesign), processor generations ahead of current desktop's. please explain specific improvements see switching current processor mbp? i'm not sure configuration i'd get, if answers vary between models, i'll try decide.

current processor intel core2 quad q8200 @ 2.33ghz




if have time:

see noticeable improvement switching between desktop , current mbp , desktop , ivy bridge mbp (of future)?

 

imo q8200 still great cpu tasks. might want list software/type of work mbp.
