Lion mail server and iPhone/iPad on same LAN

hi,
struggling here - have set mail main domain. webmail works, have managed set account on macbook pro, error message when try set account on ipad , iphone. tried set mail account in outlook, didn't work either. removed account mac , tried installing again , went smoothly!

set up. using lion server, , have installed server using example.com. have external dns hosting, , dns has following setup:
example.com - mx - mail.example.com
mail.example.com - - <my ip address>

in server admin app, have server running mail , dns services running. under general tab in mail have example.com domain name , mail.example.com host name.

when set account on mac, used example.com when asked smtp- , incomming mail server (not mail.example.com). got warning regarding ssl using self signed certificate. made me think problem use of ssl. tried disable ssl on server, still not able set e-mail on ios devices.

have tips on might doing wrong or how can make use of lion mail server?

 

i can´t belive no 1 here running mail server on lion server accessable imap using ios devices! mail server on lion bad?
