What is taking up all that space?

according disk utility i'm using 240 gb of hard drive, time machine backup under 90 gb , 2 folders i've chosen not included weighs in @ on 30 gb. means i've got 120 gb unaccounted not time machine thinks important enough up, have no idea these files hiding... i've tried clean mac, doesn't find more 500 mb can cleaned.

i've verified disk, i've checked it's permissions, i've rebooted... got idea of what's happening?

 

for space issues, there few things can try, of may or may not apply:

• begin restarting computer first step. resolves issues.
• for time machine users on notebooks running lion, space may being consumed time machine local snapshots, can disabled.
  os x lion: time machine's "local snapshots" on portable macs
• search finder see if space being consumed large file or several large files. adjust 50gb in illustration whatever size deem appropriate.

• use omnidisksweeper, jdisk report, disk inventory x or grandperspective see how space being used on drive. of these apps may show more detail others, try several.
