U.S. Senator Asks FTC to Investigate Apple and Google Over Photo Uploads to Appmakers [Updated]

senator charles schumer (d-ny) has asked federal trade commission investigate reports apple , google give app developers access videos , photos on users smartphones.




senator schumer's press release:

"when takes private photo, on private cell phone, should remain that: private," said schumer. "smartphone developers have obligation protect private content of users , not allow them veritable treasure troves of private, personal information can uploaded , distributed without consumer's consent."

according reports independent technologists, 2 separate loopholes, 1 in apple operating system , 1 in android operating system, allow apps gather users' photos. in case of apple, if user allows application use location data, used gps-based applications, allow access user's photo , video files can uploaded outside servers. in case of android-based applications, user needs allow application use internet services part of app third parties gain access photo albums.

apple has attracted congressional attention on privacy policies several times in past, once last year on location-tracking issues, , again earlier year on discovery ios app path uploading entire user address books servers.
