iPhone Restore question

i purchased iphone 3gs off of craigslist. locked at&t , wanted work red pocket mobile.

few days after getting it, phone froze , not power on. sent rma apple since covered still.

received phone today, thought id check see if red pocket mobile sim work right out of box, did.

got data working via http://www.unlockit.co.nz website. mms still doesn't work.

did research , found issue need teatherme app cydia. requires phone jb.

not want jb/unlock if dont have to. one, phone appears unlocked sim worked right out of box (however, itunes did not mention being unlocked when plugged in). baseband 5.16.05, unlockable w/o upgrading ipad baseband. since phone iphone 3gs 8gb (with serial showing manufact date of jan 2012) not want upgrade ipad baseband brick hardware.

if restored iphone in itunes, still work red pocket? assume since worked right out of box, assume factory unlocked , restoring keep unlock still.

also, if jb, keep unlock status well?

had first iphone got off of cl jailbroken before crashed.

(sry asking may newbie question. first apple product, , had rma due issues getting work red pocket. phone works now, hesitant modify ensure keeps working. able send mms pictures family of kid).

did several google searching of entire web, sites came unlocking software/services. found out how fix mms issue, want ensure jb'n iphone not kick out red pocket voice/text/data stuff.

 

there many wrong statements in message, don't know start. did google @ all?
5.16.05 not unlockable.
tetherme allows computer or other device use iphone's cellular data.
jb allows unlock, doesn't unlock phone.
provider connected at&t. why don't research?
if want find out if phone unlocked, put in t-mobile sim.
