Imac Audio issue

alright bought new ipad 3 , had download new itunes released shortly before came out. ever since audio has been weird. if click audio adjustment buttons on keyboard don't usual sound. if try , play video or song no sound. if go system preferences , click sound , change alarm works sounds. im puzzled , have never had happen on update of anything.

i'm using 20inch imac 2.66 core 2 duo , 8gb ddr3 running 10.7.3
