Some very basic qs about IDLE

i've downloaded idle interpreter python , @ first thought had hang of totally confused now.

have idle shell open python when open idle have noticed can open new window shell , brings notepad type page, without prompts. main text editor page have write code , save from? what's confusing me seem able save files shell , wondering why want save in both?

realise basic question new programming , ignorant lot of basic stuff comp sci people take granted!

problem i'm having have thing installed - when open it's black window prompts, similar idle shell, , called python.exe @ top.

downloaded these via mit site , didn't understand difference of each when downloaded...

appreciate ones need use. i'm thinking 2 enough- text editor , shell in idle? , don't need python.exe (the black screen window).

 

python can used interactively, or in more conventional way of "write code, execute code."

idle gives both options, i.e. python shell prompt interactive work, , text editor (with highlighting , code completion).

when save file shell, saves shell history, not give working piece of python code, can still useful. don't know python.exe is, don't need
