Mdworker, using all the resources, apps not responding

a couple of days ago, noticed there lots of chatter coming hard drive.* noticed mac pro slow @ doing things, lots of beach balls , applications not responding.* right now, can hear hdd

opened activity monitor , noticed process name called - mdworker - using 8.83gb or real mem , around 11.80gb of virtual mem.* these figures fluctuate, virtual mem has gone high 14gb.* process goes down low below gb, rises again.

have 10gb of ram installed inside mac.* furthermore, i've seen 100%of cpu use though mdworker.

i've been reading problem, lots of advice says move hdd image privacy pane on spotlight indexing/spotlight issue, though still want use spotlight.

didn't mean have stars in, copied starlight forum i've posted.

process ever end, or there way stop it, using resources?

thing i've installed of late music plug-in called geist , expansion pack came it.

right can't rally use mac before, i'm writing on ipad.

if drive active or cpu utilization high (possibly increased temps , fan speed) when you're not running apps, check see if spotlight indexing looking @ menu bar icon:

(not indexing)
(dot pulsing = indexing)

also, mdworker consume system resources until indexing complete. best thing let finish initial index, can take several hours. once it's complete, maintaining , updating index quick , won't use resources noticeable degree.
