4G LTE Symbol on Verizon iPad?

i have not activated data plan new verizon ipad yet. wanted first check signal quality , ability access 4g beforehand. right see 3g symbol on ipad though supposedly in 4g area.

went verizon store in area ask it. after getting through initial shock selling new ipad didn't know had 4g capability , said see 4g lte symbol *after* data plan activation.

explanation jive others seeing or believe true? don't want activate plan , still not see 4g lte.

 

yes, that's how me. said 3g, though verizon's online coverage map said address in lte area. after signed up, lte symbol appeared.
