not sure if in right section. mods, feel free move @ discretion.
there many views on future of os x be. goal of thread contrast 2 opinions, , deduce path apple take in coming years.
there 3 groups of users: professionals, users know way around computer, , basic, home users. in past, apple has catered first 2 groups. while doing this, add little features provide gateway third group mac world. recently, however, apple has begun start aiming products @ third group. introduction of ipad, people wouldn't need laptop. have simple, intuitive, , around easy use.
however, apple has been known focus on 1 or 2 things. branches reaching consumer market of higher end products starting suffer. example, computers geared towards professionals , knowledgable users being updated less novice users more buy. , buying, chart illustrates
(macrumors, january 24 2012)
whole, ios devices making on 7 times apple making off of mac sales. novice users make 85% of ipad market*, 45% of iphone market* (which isn't affected article, disregard it), , 60% of mac market.
*these figures averages, , not take account people use ipad presentations, etc.
if take of account, serious users , professionals account
5.6% or 1/17th of apple's entire market.
if apple 'dumbs down' computer lineup, more novice users buy computers, , more money company.
although professional users buy more expensive equipment, there many novice users sheer number of purchases dwarfs income professional market. , discontinuing low-sales professional models cut costs. (this has been done xserve!) therefore apple make more money , more novice users buy. professionals switch windows, linux, or solaris.
however, have @ marketing trends here. we've got realize microsoft , other pc companies copy apple does. example:
(microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/touch-mouse)
"microsoft touch mouse" magic mouse plasticey surface , windows badge glued onto it. happens pretty apple does, ipad (galaxy tab) mba (ultrabooks). if apple scraps traditional operating system , goes more novice-friendly setup, microsoft follow suit. linux same thing increase compatibility. leaves solaris professional users. , quite honestly, this
(sun microsystems server rack)
not users want computer. need put our foot down! if trend continues professionals , serious users standing @ hot rack typing on kvm (i do, that's whole other story)
in opinion, apple disregarding it's professional users. understand this. own tech manufacturing business , produce products follow recent trends in technology. need cater demographic can make money. however, without service allows them harness potential, artists , professionals won't able produce best work. company has prepared os x go under, , have started purchasing thin clients , solaris racks our business. 1 don't want go down road, might not have choice in future.
it's kind of hard edit , publish amazing photograph standing in server room.
reading, , sorry wall of text. getting out there because important issue, , needs brought light. if can convince apple pros , knowledgable users still important part of user base, might able stop happening.
thank you,

hope don't need change sig :solaris_sun:2
sorry, breaking post 2 doesn't longer is.
guys, please don't start flame war. "apple wouldn't that!!!!!!1111" isn't proper response. if that's idea, give reason why can discuss in civilized manner. i've seen many threads locked , deleted because of crap this. let's keep civil can use information.
