Resetting Mail but keeping "On My Mac folders"?

hi everyone.
while playing around mail application rid of duplicate sent mail issue, have changed settings , can't things work properly.

now, want reset mail.

afaik, need trash mail folder in library plus com.apple.mail.plist preferences folder.

1 thing i'm not sure of restore local folders (on mac folders) containing locally stored emails.

figured should go library-> mail , copy "mailboxes" folder location. then, trashing, reset mail , manually put copied "mailboxes" folder mail.

correct? can give hand?
