Smart cover failure leading to scratched iPad

so today in morning took off smart cover , noticed there's pretty gruesome scratch on new ipad smart cover meets ipad.
looks there piece of metal coming through rubber strip on magnetized part of cover.

called apple , representitive said had never heard of happening. looked online , found few similar stories happening ipad 2 owners. made appointment @ th genius bar tomorrow. hoping replace ipad , smart cover.

clearly it's defective smart cover rare imo..unless u damaged accident , maybe didn't notice it.
