New iPad stuck on waiting for items to copy?

so, i've had new ipad week , bit now, , everytime syncs, gets stuck on waiting items copy.
has synced across, , thought being impatient, i've left on 1 1/2-2 hours while went lecture, , it's still going!
ideas? on step 6 out of 6 way.

that happened third gen first time synced backup of first gen ipad. not since though.
