i've looked through bunch of threads , can't find what's happening me, although i've found stuff that's close. so, if there's 1 directly on point, don't jump me on it, point out , i'll slink away quietly...
here's mess.
i've got 4 macs––all ppcs––that have been doing odd things: chinese writing on screen after crash, repeated crashes, monstrously slow processing, etc. kids use computers , don't they're told, i.e. downloading kinds of stuff , partially deleting, downloading same pics or tunes off of jump drive or portable hard drive...four times...but, digress...
picture––drives full of extra, unnecessary, duplicate junk. also, 2 of computers used @ office , installed os (tiger) multi-pack, mixed codes , couldn't find 1 of disks, couldn't re-install os. checked online hard-drive clean-up utilities , couldn't find of didn't require newer os. had tiger running on 4 machines.
so....i bought black, multi-license version of leopard 10.5.4 and...

yeah, started installing simultaneously on machines. please save applause...
here's what's happening post-upgrade:
white, imac g5, 2.1ghz g5, 512mb ram, 240gb (??) hd w/ approx. 201 gb unused: 1 seems work ok, abnormally slow doing things––like safari hangs 15 seconds switching tabs. not time, here , there. don't know that's about, can live in short time. figure needs more ram.
half-moon, 1ghz g4, 2gb ram, 80gb hd w/ approx. 26gb unused: airport won't connect well, works, not; clock won't set automatically, keeps defaulting december 31, 1969; thought internet issue, hasn't corrected after getting wifi reconnected; install did rid of chinese writing crashes, however, i've had reload number of drivers , peripherals don't work correctly: e.g. canoscan lide 500f scanner required new driver, worked fine 2 days, , gives me prompt not being able calibrate , should remove film grid, when film grid not being used--reboot , works ok again, while. 1 works second-best.
emac 1.25ghz g4, 768mb ram, think hd 80gb, can't recall, 60% used, again, recall...i up, alas, 1 asleep...actually, 1 schizophrenic...it booted fine, @ first.... son raved being faster, etc. removed languages using monolingual. verified disc, repaired permissions, & began searching duplicate files & other junk using onyx. think must have removed shouldn't have...now won't boot. instead, makes higher-pitched tone, "attention" sound on airplane before captain speaks, sleep/wake light pulses rapidly 15 times , sounds boot, minute or later, makes start-up chime, gray screen, apple icon screen, and...after seems 15 minutes, screen blue on top 60% , has long black & white checkers fade off "point-of-view" exercise in elementary school art, on bottom 40%. that's it. nothing else ever happens.
first boot problems, login screen , freeze after login had commenced, i.e., point see desktop...it freeze touched @ all––file menus, icons, etc. actually, should correct that, didn't "freeze" per se: keyboard wouldn't work, mouse arrow still move around, couldn't it. thought might've been getting hung because wasn't shut down, i.e., because kept having use power button turn off. so, since login screen come up, tried restarting , shutting down there instead of logging in. not difference.
then, after several other boot attempts, froze @ login screen: type in user name , pw, , others freeze/deactivate instantly when clicked on field. now, said, never gets far, looks screen-saver of checkered computer-generated picture of bonneville salt flats. i've tried boot install cd , won't it––initiates superdrive, doesn't boot it. backed drive using time machine iomega fw hard drive after install before attempts @ housecleaning, have read conflicting versions of whether can boot firewire port or not. also, have been scared screw 1 hope have of restoring info onto computer.
ibook 1.25 ghz g4, 1.5 gb ram, 40gb hd w/ approx. 5 gb unused: know hd capacity issue. 1 booted 2.5 gb unused. removed language stuff "monolingual" , freed 3 gb. verified disk, repaired permissions, , booted again 2 or 3 times without issue. then...apparently (very) deep sleep. can't boot. glow light pulsing, no reaction (today) when hit power key on keyboard. yesterday, hear superdrive & hd make boot-up whirrs/clicks. today nothing light. don't know try––like booting install disc, etc., because doesn't "do" anything...but sit there mocking me.
appreciated. i'm not idiot, not proud admit may've caused alot of did. also, if missed posts on these problems, humbly apologize , go read them if point them out.
if computers i'd format , install. don't know trying accomplish (i do) went wrong way. if you're trying rid of crap or problems don't upgrade os 0 out drive , reinstall os , apps fresh not up. can install dock , pic's etc though.
