Time Capsule 2TB vs AirPort Extreme w/ 2TB External

i in market new router , trying make mind. looking @ either 2tb time capsule or airport extreme w/ 2tb external drive. pros , cons of each except price, want know whats going best. looking using time machine wirelessly , backing ipad , iphone , accessing files remotely. biggest worry if hard drive in time capsule fails. can replaced drive or have special hard drive works time capsule. have thought doing nas can use raid protect files. have large amounts of pictures, videos, , music must backed up. thank in advance , suggestions.

 

i've tried both configurations. ape router , had tm set automatically backup mbp wirelessly external usb drive. recall having fuss bit initial backup after smooth sailing.

sold extreme , opted cleaner setup of time capsule. rather rely solely on tc, purchased small nas manual backups , function media server.

people have replaced hard drive , didn't find proprietary or difficult.
