Cleaning up OSX Lion

okay, have had imac several years , has been upgraded through leopard, snow leopard, , lion. 2 ghz core 2 duo , forget how old... maybe 4 years now. has never had clean install.

before new os drops summer thinking wanted clean occurs me, how clean mac? have no uninstaller type programs, have dragged app applications trash remove it. assume leaves stuff behind in library both @ user , system level? when @ login items, there 2 items there marked "can not find" seems me indication stuff left behind in removing applications.

short of complete wipe , rebuild, other clean options have? there trustworthy , decent tools out there junk? other advice there?
