back in 2010, curious video game performance on mbp. got 2 categories of answers:
1. bad person wanting play video games. macs sleek professionals don't care games. stop liking apple.
2. nvidia 330m incredible chip , perform great.
thought, heck, lot of use out of mac either way, might well, , got mbp 17".
gaming performance atrocious. without third-party apps increase fan speed, machine overheated , crashed badly running wow. third-party fan speed increase, performed two-year-old machine had under linux, say, poorly.
well, long story short, not learn mistakes. spouse wants laptop. we'd prefer mac. we'd able run games on (specifically rift). preference, we'd using crossover games rather bootcamp, because don't want spend $100 on windows license , have deal viruses , malware. obviously, suicidally stupid try work on intel hd graphics. questions:
1. how difference there between 6750 , 6770?
2. can machine run both cpu , gpu without overheating?
3. no, really. goal here not prove ultimate superiority of apple.
basically, if it's not going remotely practical, can save lot of money not getting video hardware. doesn't have able run game @ ultra settings @ 60fps or anything; i'm looking for, say, ability run regular renderer , play decently.
aware games "run better under bootcamp". don't care; if 1 game care runs acceptably under crossover, we'll fine that. aware can better video game machine less. heck, aware that, price difference of buying mac can run games @ all, faster pc laptop run games better. goal not have have 2 separate machines or have deal windows if can possibly avoid it.
have concrete information performance, of rift in particular? know i've seen threads claiming overheating problems of 2011 mbps, haven't found much, , not many people playing games on them mysterious reason.
you bad person wanting play video games. macs sleek professionals don't care games. stop liking apple.
ok, few points here:
if machine crashed overheating, had/has technical defect , should have had repaired apple.
played wow several years on 2008 mbp nvidia 8600 gt graphics... didn't have performance issues. note dedicated graphics card. if buy mac has integrated graphics (e.g. 13'' mbp), have bad performance.
screw crossover , other ports. tried rift, it's not pleasant experience. each game runs decently using crossover/cider/wineskin port, there 100 don't work, or have lot of bugs , inconveniences. it's better spend $100 windows license $40 on crossover.
or, play games run natively.
questions:
1. performance difference small. if serious gaming, go faster model - 1 gb of video ram might useful in future.
2. yes. both 2008 , 2011 run demanding games extended periods of time without instabilities.
