Mac mail won't send stays in Outbox

have 10 messages in outbox not send. stay in outbox send folder keeps spinning , nothing helping.

restarted numerous times.
deleted mail accounts, recreated accounts again. can receive cannot send.

why mac mail weird ?

latest version of lion 10.7.3
mbp 13 late 2011. 8gb ram. no other issues except mac mail.

 

just started sending again. no rhyme or reason, stops when feels it, starts working again.

arrgghh!!
