Does GPS work in Wifi mode Only on 4G iPads?

does gps work in wifi mode (assume disabled 4g) on 4g ipad? or use wifi triangulate position.

 

assuming it's same setup ipad 2 has, 4g models have real gps chip in works independently of data connection.
