Apple Threatens to Sue Proview for Defamation as Chinese Court Asks Distributors to Pull iPads

associated press reports chinese court has ruled against apple in ongoing trademark dispute proview technology on rights "ipad" trademark in country, deciding distributors should halt sales of ipad in china. impact of ruling is, however, unclear lawsuit 1 of many proview has filed against apple in efforts extract as $2 billion trademark rights.

meanwhile, idg news reports apple sent letter proview today threatening lawsuit on defamation charges. apple had previously won case on trademark rights in hong kong court, , apple's threats claim proview has issued false public statements regarding dispute.
apple claims shell company set purpose of anonymously acquiring intellectual property rights purchased ipad trademark rights in china , number of other countries proview in 2009 $55,000. proview later reported subsidiary making deal did not hold chinese rights , demanded apple pay $10 million before different subsidiary transfer rights.
