i'm helping friend out trying solve battery life problems mbp5,3 15" 2.8ghz c2d. has upcoming trip germany (approx. 12hrs each way) , wants use mac on flight. on way there power available , use magsafe airline adapter not on way there.
problem reports 1.5hrs of useful battery life. installed trial version of istat , battery shows 436 cycles , 82% health.
there 2 solutions see it:
1) replace battery
-ifixit out of stock, found 1 @ macpartsonline $191 plus pentalobe screwdriver ifixit makes on $200, more apple charge replace battery few dollars, don't think can have 3-4 day downtime i'd expect going route (will verify local apple stores , if has source battery, i'd appreciate it). add $50 airline adapter , you've got maybe 5hrs on way out , no problems on way back.
2)buy external battery
-the 1 seems review on mr hyperjuice , few reviews found mixed @ best (and higher capacity versions), saying it's great others saying it's worst. route cost $249 battery + $50 magsafe airline adapter.
personally, replace battery , go whatever usage out of on flight there , sleep rest of time, whatever reason leaning towards hyperjuice, , assuming works advertised, full usage flight out , husband use well, requires lugging piece of equipment around , making sure it's charged, etc.
if has experience hyperjuice or other externals or if you've had battery replaced, i'd love hear thoughts on better choice.
thanks!
go replacing internal battery. cheaper, , honestly, hell wants carry piece of metal around?
