thought i'd relate story of how apple scared me , offered me great deal.
graphics card on late-2007 mbp went. outside of 4-year repair-extension would've fixed free. offered repair $310 "flat-fee". so, handed on , shipped off. got call morning because optical drive missing, mentioned during repair "check-in" (removed while ago cuz broke), going cost $1240 instead fix! yikes! on horn apple, 'bradley' offered me 2 options: 1) mbp returned me, unfixed, or 2) speak supervisor. chose #2. 'r.w.' said there no way should have pay , went wrong @ store accepted mbp. talk them , me. called few hours later (took while store return call). store less accommodating; laptop back, put superdrive in, bring in , send off again , have fixed $310. or, if buy new or refurbed mac, gesture of goodwill, said apple discount price $100 + 10% off. well, maybe time move decade , replace ailing mbp. since interested in macbook air, r.w. offered send me external superdrive @ no cost well. looked through refurb section and, since run xcode lot, picked out nice 13" mba (same resolution screen 15" mbp, way) 4gb of ram , 256gb ssd. $1349 - $100 - %10 - $250 giftcard got christmas + $22 overnight delivery + tax = <$937 well-stocked mba.
tl;dr: got refurb 13" mba (4gb,256ssd) w/ external superdrive less $1k out-of-pocket apple's good-will gesture , $250 giftcard
enjoy new baby. got base 13" mba @ christmas , has become favorite mac ever.
nice hear customer service apple.
