iPhone 3GS is taking too much time to do a hard reset

hello,

needed hard reset on iphone 3gs , it's taking me time. it's taking 12 hours now!!!!

did going "settings, general, reset, erase content , settings", confirm , iphone turns off, gets screen black animated circle going on. , it's been there since then.
symptom of bad? should hard reset way?

this weird...
try restore itunes , choose "set new" instead of using backup. should have same effect , doesn't take long
