Partial calendar dropdown from top of screen

hi all,
searched ipad user guide , couldn't find on this.

in screen (safari or email), when swipe finger down top of display, small dropdown window displays partial (very few) list of calendar appointments. bug or feature? if feature, why partial in showing couple calendar events?
