Qualcomm's Next-Generation Gobi Platform Consolidates Mobile Standards Support for Future iOS Devices

qualcomm today announced launch of fifth-generation gobi reference platform seeks pack support of major worldwide mobile standards single chip. while reference platform not ready in time inclusion in ipad 3, pave way future world-mode ios devices , targeted @ ultra-thin notebooks , tablets.
gobi offers layer of software enhancements on top of qualcomm's mdm chipsets in order streamline wireless connectivity across technologies.

apple uses world-mode chip support both gsm , cdma networks in iphone 4s, device not support faster lte networks being deployed. ipad 3 has been claimed support lte, , using world-mode chip capable of falling onto both gsm , cdma 3g networks.

apple has held off on supporting lte far because technology has not been available in single-chip solution meeting apple's size , power requirements. qualcomm's new single chip designs making way availability, apple has options suit design , performance goals future devices.

while identity of lte wireless chip in ipad 3 has not yet been revealed, qualcomm's roadmap suggests apple may looking use mdm9600 (or mdm9615) in ipad 3. iphone 5 due later year, apple utilize mdm9615, pack voice capabilities onto lte chip.
