My Macbook Pro is Tediously Slow

i have macbook pro, 13 inch, 2.3 ghz i5 processor running os x 10.7.3. self upgraded ram 8gb , hard drive 1 tb. suspect hard drive upgrade may blame. computer takes forever wake sleep. 2003 macbook beats it. i'd takes 5 minutes after waking sleep functional. thoughts? seems run okay after it's been going awhile.

sounds either hard drive or ram issues. first things first, sure backups up-to-date.

start basic things (ie: repair disk permissions, repair disk, reset pram, reset smc, etc.); these don't require work on part; see if issue resolved.

if that's not resolved, memtest86 , run test on memory overnight (fyi: memtest86 free, if find site sells it, it's scam).

if doesn't show errors, run hard drive test; use drive genius 3, if you're looking free solution consider searching (sorry i'm no on last one).

suggest order, since it's least time consuming. luck.
