Help! Lion won't let me open multiple selected files!

it's hard check , see if anyone's asked before, because issue similar "resume" feature. it's opposite, though.

when select multiple documents , try open them in word/office, 1 3 of files open. regularly open 20-30 files @ time, in order close them finish working on them, opening each 1 hand becoming bit of pain!

if nothing else, opening multiple documents simultaneously has worked before in every other version of macos. i've tried selecting them , dragging them word icon on dock, tried selecting , hitting enter, opening folder , using menu "select all" , "open"...nothing doing. it's strangest me it's random how many files open, though it's never more 3 @ time. known bug? "user feature"? help!

oh, and, on brand new mini, running office 2008. have problem opening multiple images @ once also, though seems more random , willing open more files preview (2-5 instead of 1-3). wth. files freshly downloaded one-by-one, don't nasty nag screens telling me i'm open file downloaded internet, isn't problem.

i routinely open dozen or more excel files simultaneously. select them, right-click , select "open". can't tell post if you're doing different, sure works fine me.
