Applications Not Showing Up in Finder

i've had macbook pro ~2 years , 6 months after purchasing it, applications disappeared applications folder when accessed finder sidebar. when right click on docked app , select options>show in finder appear.

thoughts why happened , how fix it? thanks!

 

drag, or command-drag applications folder off sidebar , let go. disappear in puff of smoke. click on macintosh hd on sidebar, locate applications folder appears on right , drag sidebar.
