X11 ????

there x11 app in utilities section of screen. when run it
blank screen , xterm window. all! no window manager...no menu system...etc. how exit x11 utility? if quit xterm window left blank screen no obvious way normal mac display.

in frustration...i downloaded thought updated/expanded version of x11. no x11 utility won't start.

questions are:

1) how recover x11 utility? (w/o purchasing copy of lion)

2) if can recover it...how exit out of gracefully?

where did x11 update?

1. if don't have recovery partition of lion installer, can re-download mac os x 10.7 lion installer via mac app store (mas) without purchasing again, since purchased it.
os x lion: lion recovery
lion recovery disk assistant

2. exit out of application, press cmd+q or not work?

ps: want use x11? gimp?
