just got word mac mall repair person logic board has failed. took in because not power on. told me cost replace logic board apple $474 + $120 labor (i have pay $89 diagnostics can applied cost). since not have apple care thinking of getting new machine. however, pretty unhappy machine lasted 1 year , and 5 months. first mac. other windows machines (30 years worth) seem last longer , when did have replace mother board maybe $120 - $150 (mostly standard size machines). these reasons never ever "insurance" apple care.
not lot can past thinking of future. has been experience? buy apple care? have business @ least can write off still not happy apple @ moment.
regarding machine. use spare parts. daughter has same machine , son has "prior" generation. also, have 8gb of memory in machine understand memory slower version comes in new machine. other thoughts?
i hope responses on buying extended warranties. seems big business these days. i'll give take on has worked out me.
have chossen self insure when comes extended warranties. if added times i've passed on option when offered anything, buy several minis or replacements. once in while have use savings. example, pass on tire replacement certificates , loss 1 couple months old, have passed on option 3 times, 12 tires @ 20 bucks pop, covered cost.
on time choice easier, i'm way in black, passed on extended car warranty, $1500, car has 200k had put $100 in it.
