Gimp & X11 not working

hi all,
sorry ask question i'm sure must know answer have been searching answers day, no avail.

have been trying download gimp, each time i've done it, won't work.

have apple x11 on system, i'm guessing it's not right somehow i've read needs 1 install disk. however, bought imac , did not come install disk, preinstalled.

out there must have come across problem. there solution without me having go , buy separate install disk? have tried find x11 online quartz ones don't work gimp apparently , anyway forbidden access download server apparently...

suggestions?

- btw - when open gimp after installing, opens program , icon shows in dock there no options me anything. , have mac os x 10.6.8

you have click x11 icon not gimp icon; clicking x11 icon bring menus gimp.
