Mac OS X Naming Scheme/What comes after Mountain Lion etc. [Threads Merged]

note: before read this, please note i'm discussing only choice names os. i'm not talking functionality, stability or usability of different releases.

, yes, falling in love os x mountain lion, , can't wait release!

after decade of mac os x, here's list of releases:

10.0 - cheetah
10.1 - puma
10.2 - jaguar
10.3 - panther
10.4 - tiger
10.5 - leopard
10.6 - snow leopard
10.7 - lion
10.8 - mountain lion

list can see apple naming os based on 'big cats' names. (which 99% of users in forum know).

interesting thing if @ list of big cats on wikipedia:

you'll see 3 of our beloved "mac big cats", (puma, panther , mountain lion), not included in list. after further research, wanted check out names apple still hasn't used yet: cougar , clouded leopard. name 'clouded leopard' could've been used update leopard/snow leopard, would've sounded cheesy after 2 consecutive releases name 'leopard'.

leaves cougar. if go wikipedia page you'll find this:

which means cougar, panther, puma , mountain lion same animal. , animal not big in size. so, mountain lion smaller animal lion. it's they're downgrading king of jungle smaller cat.

giving 3 different major os releases names of same animal somehow weird move apple, company known extreme attention smallest details.

after mountain lion, if apple still wants release 10.9, going have use either cougar or catamount, still same animal panther, puma , mountain lion. there no more 'big cats' names use except maybe mountain cat (which not sound interesting @ all), , clouded leopard, i'm 100% sure won't use due reasons explained earlier in post.

1 more thing... when apple done os x, , wants move on os xi, naming scheme think they'll adopt? perhaps canines? birds? sharks? or dropping whole animal theme, , go stars, galaxies , maybe natural phenomena. os xi volcano, anyone?

let me hear thoughts!

obviously, apple haven't gone exclusively names of "big cats" because mentioned, there's 4 big cats. they've instead they've named os x releases using names of wildcats.

if read wikipedia article on this, , skip down classifications, list names of wildcats , sub-species of cat relate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/felidae#classification

list, apple still has few names use future releases of os x.
