Illustrator out of RAM

hi everyone, not sure if right place great help.

i'm trying simple 3d extrude bevel on couple of curves in illustrator cs5 , keep getting message saying illustrator out of ram , can't complete it. i'm using late 2011 15" macbook pro 8gb of ram , message when i'v still got around 5gb of ram free. there way let illustrator use more ram around this.

welcome world of illustrator... software old can't take advantage of latest hardware....

i've been dealing same problem in both osx , windows, both computers 8 gigs of ram, looks illustrator can take 3 gigs of ram. try closing other programs use illustrator, , try 3d extrusion on different document nothing else on it. need simplify things llustrator work.

hope new cs6 version 64 bits , takes advantage of gpu power... can't open 2 complex files @ same time... ram bought machines....
