Hardware modifications to maximise battery life


i'm trying squeeze more life out of mbp, has lead me wondering hardware set maximise battery life. couple thoughts:

1) install ssd - best way go on , off usage, or green spinning drives better? also, having relatively full hard drive decrease battery life?

2) remove optical disk drive - use power in standby?

3) use single stick of ram - matter @ all?

4) underclock cpu :p think that's going far! on mac, if windows machine i'd consider it!
 

none of things have significant effect on battery life, affected greater extent system settings , apps/processes have running. see battery life charge section of following link details.

should answer most, if not all, of battery questions:
