hi, thinking getting 4 bay drobo expand storage pace internal hdd full , external 1 @ maximum capacity. i've read many posts saying drobos slow , not worth money, how can upgrade storage when need space.
i've had few recommendations go nas storage solution don't understand how work , whether fast speeds. i'd imagined having drobo connected fw800 faster storing files on home network?
imac 3 rooms away router , connected wifi synology or qnap nas faster drobo connected fw800? idea of not having storage connected computer if macbook or in future able free external drive still have access files.

nas means "network attached storage" , if macs have gigabit ethernet connection (all intel macs ethernet port do), ethernet faster firewire 800 (100 mb/s compared 65 mb/s).
if connect via wifi, nas lost purchase, limit 5 15 mb/s. if want use wifi, maybe usb hdd , connect router, if has usb port , configure router , hdd have hdd accessible via wifi.
