steve.
hello. airport utility 5.6: if you'd able access files on imac, you'll need go airport utility, select main router, click manual setup, advanced, port mapping, , +. select personal file sharing in service drop down, , make sure every text box says 548 except private ip address. here must enter imac's private ip address. if don't know is, go imac, system preferences, network. should find under status: connected (and should 10.0.1.x or 192.168.1.x). once you've entered private ip address in airport utility, click continue, , done. now, go ahead , update router. access imac's files on remote computer, go finder, go, connect server. here must enter afp://your-public-ip-here. if don't know public ip, go imac, , go ipchicken.com. number public ip address. enter in , press connect. eh voila - should connected imac. note: 1. file sharing must turned on in imac's system preferences work. 2. both public ip , private ip can change, , screw file sharing. in order keep private ip, go airport utility, internet, dhcp, , dhcp reservations. click +, enter imac's mac address (found in network in system pref), , type ip address want.
okay, think that's it. if left out anything/it doesn't work, let me know!
luck network setup!
