hi all,
i'm new on forum, thought i'd hi. i've been lurking while, while deciding computer buy recently, when replaced aging pc laptop.
bought base-model mac mini month ago, expanded 4gb ram. use music, have other stuff going on too. base i5 pretty powerful - seems twice fast previous computer.
not first mac, first since blue ibook bought in 1999. first ever experience macosx. work computers , i'm closet linux geek, i'm finding way around pretty easily.
music use ableton live , logic. macmini seems handle both of them quite well. "disk slow" errors logic. cut these down putting projects on external usb drive. have external firewire drive on order, should improve situation further.
4gb _easily_ enough use for. ran demo project in logic, , tried loading bunch of other apps while played song. never had less 100mb of free memory, no page-outs , song never hiccuped.
impressive thing how nicely mac plays external hardware. example ease of setting wireless midi connections ipad, printing pc printer on network, or using bluetooth mouse , keyboard (both microsoft btw).
anyway, enough now,
daniel
i have heard people have noticed significant speed increase installing ssd. hard drive seems slowest component in minis.
