Dell U2412M vs. TBD

i've been looking new/larger monitor use mba. using 23" hp2311x like, been contemplating 27" tbd.

dell has deal today (don't know how of deal is) u2412m + canon digi cam $369.99 + tax. not sure if that's deal or not monitor.

higher resolution of tbd + port options. don't think glossy display issue me. way desk set don't direct sunlight, room light. , friend has tbd , 15" mbp said it's same material mbp, used have, , said if wasn't bothered mbp display should fine tbd display.

dell more half price cheaper , ips, read people saying color options off , needs calibrated?

feedback awesome! thought know not many people may have experiences both.

just give small amount of feedback, though have no experience particular dell monitor:

if you're doing color critical work, you're going need calibrate whatever monitor buy, period. can passible hardware calibrator relatively reasonable price now.

if, however, you're picky color, rather relying on work, should still calibrate screen, built-in software calibration in macos (or 3rd party software) enough, long full calibration , careful. that's opinion based on wide range of monitors @ work, 27" apple ips panels cheap, five-year-old viewsonic screens.

apple ships os profiles displays, out of box , uncalibrated they're going better 3rd party monitor, after calibration there shouldn't difference, , there's no excuse not spend 5 minutes takes advanced calibration. windows buries calibration stuff deeper, , don't think works well, factor people complaining calibration on screen (unless you're talking mac users complaining).

if me, i'd tbd--i love size , it's no-brainer port additions mba (the hardware ethernet in particular). but, if 24" big enough it's matter of whether additional ports , 3" worth price difference.
