Brand new iPad 3, battery won't charge above 87%

any ideas here?

purchased ipad 3 last night , had 83% when opened out of box. used until battery drained , popped on wall charger 12+hours. made 87%....anyone ever see before??

 

have rebooted ipad , tried again? first. if still won't charge way take apple store , exchange it.
