MBP (Lion) doesn't go to sleep by itself

my mbp has gone sleep automatically should, started acting few weeks ago. having wake sleep every morning , several times day, goes sleep handful of times per week - if that. same thing happened few months ago, "fixed itself" after week, no idea why reckoned kind of app had gone crazy.

no app should culprit, since problem persists if terminate of apps running. i've had system defaults in energy saving settings, sliders there not set "never". i've checked console , fixed little things popping (now thing showing after night of idle time machine backups once hour). i've tried sharing settings-tip people talking about. far can tell, hdd isn't being accessed. no new hardware, no new apps...

in short, i've tried can think of , can find searching google , forum. i'm sure i've missed something, please throw , tips, tricks , solutions know or have heard of way , i'll retry think i've done see if can fixed.

i having same issue mbp running lion.

no matter how long leave computer, refuses go sleep (despite energy saving settings remaining default). can, however, force sleep menu bar.

also, when shut computer, still makes low humming noise (and fans running). normal couple of seconds, sound disappear few seconds , come back–it won't go away. when open laptop while sound being made, screen on turns black (the keyboard remains lit up) , fix issue have adjust brightness (click mouse/keyboard won't light screen).

strange going on sleep function (note using 15" late 2011 mbp).
