Is my iPad 2 "locked"?

hi all,

i'll putting ipad 2 3g sale soon, have question regarding being locked carrier.

bought around launch date on contract 3, subsidised. i've since paid up-front remainder of contract (april '13). there reason why can't take sim card out , carry on pre-paid allowance in new ipad?

also, when sell should advertise bought 3? or can put whatever sim in there? i'm hoping bought on contract specific sim isn't tied specific ipad!

only ipads sold in japan locked carrier.
