Clicking Noise

hi, wondering if has ideas why imac has started make fas ticking, clicking noise on start or when being woken sleep mode. after while gets quieter , quieter , if put display sleep , not hard drive noise stays away. put hd sleep or reboot imac noise returns, hd, if why not time?

i suggest backup data, clicking hdd indicates incoming failure.
