Atv3 missing remote functions

just picked new atv after having multiple 1st gens years.
has new software removed ability assign single remote buttons skip-ahead/back , chapter changes?
realize can hold down directional buttons accomplish skip forward , back, preferred discrete command.

i assume talking using third party remote control?
if yes, still possible, can use specific chapter next/back buttons on remote.
