notifications not working properly

i noticed that, of upgrading ip4 5.1, notifications apps not appear. same apps work fine on ipad2. tried restarting, turning notifcations off/on, reinstalling apps , nothing.

 

by chance, little switch on upper left side showing orange stripe? if so, has muted phone's alerts.
