Bookmarks

i've bought imac , can't see add bookmarks. imac has imported previous bookmarks ipad , these under 'bookmarks' on left hand column, when click + button gives me 2 options add them bookmarks menu or bookmarks bar, when neither of them go bookmarks column. being thick or fix this?

there way can permanently keep bookmarks sidebar?

 

in safari @ top of menu bar see + sign click , can add menu bar or elsewhere if prefer..see image attached!
