Can't Format Second HDD

using kit ifixit, added 2nd hdd (seagate momentus xt st750lx003 750gb). installation seems fine, mini recognizes drive.

when try format, using mac os extended (journaled), begins, fails following error:

disk erase failed

disk erase failed error:

file system formatter failed.​

partition information shows name diskos2 mac os extended type.

can change number of partitions, still gives same error when try format 1 of partitions.

ideas appreciated.

 

what partition map scheme have selected under options?
